Review: Devil Jam
I might be biased as I love metal, I love roguelikes and i’m Belgian. This game ticks all three boxes.
If you know me, you know I love games. It doesn’t matter where they are from, but they have to be of a certain quality. When I saw Devil Jam’s trailer I was immediately sold. Metal? count me in! Graphics like Hades? I love it! Also the presentation is very Hades-like, and I love that style. Not gonna lie! Vampire-survivors I have as well, and this game is a Vampire-survivors-like… so it has a lot of that style as well, but it has it’s own distinct flavour.
All the attacks trigger on certain beats and you place them on certain squares creating synergies between certain attacks. Makes it fun. Makes it challenging as well, as you have to tetris your powers in such a way that you get the most buffs out of ‘em.
The game is an addictive rollercoaster-ride that lets you dodge and weave between enemies while the riffs and drums rattle around your ears. What I also like is that it doesn’t need a lot of buttons to be enjoyed. You also don’t need to memorize endless combos, you just dodge, duck, dip, dive and… dodge between enemies and projectiles and do what you do best!
